Leadership and Management Concentration details

Program Overview

The curriculum for the online M.S. in Nursing is based on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Essentials of Master’s Education. The nursing leadership and management concentration prepares nurses to assume roles in leadership of complex healthcare systems across the continuum of care in a variety of settings. Students in the nurse  leadership and management concentration require preparation across all nine essential areas linking graduate-level clinical practice content and experiences.

Delivery Format

Students complete the leadership and management concentration in an entirely online format using synchronous and asynchronous online classrooms as necessary.

Two Flexible Options

Students have a full time and part time progression option.  Full time students can complete the program in 4 consecutive semesters. Part time students can complete the program in 6 consecutive semesters (including summer). Students can begin in Fall, Spring, or Summer.

Program Practicum & Clinical Requirements

Students enrolled in the MSN Education and Leadership & Management programs are required to complete 135 practicum hours in settings related to their program specialty. The required practicums will be completed in the student’s local community, unless there are no local sites that meet eligibility criteria. Students will identify practicum sites of interest through a formalized process facilitated by the course instructor. The course instructor will work closely with the faculty member (course instructor) and the legal department at Frostburg State University to ensure that an affiliation agreement is finalized prior to the practicum experience that is mutually agreeable to both parties.

Students are expected to take an active role in assisting with the identification of potential practicum sites and preceptors within their local area. While the Department of Nursing maintains a dedicated clinical placement team to support students in securing placements with approved clinical agencies and preceptors, student engagement in this process is essential for successful placement.

Clinical site availability may vary based on community resources. As such, students must be prepared to travel up to one hour from their place of residence to fulfill clinical placement requirements.

Health, background check, and education requirements may vary by clinical site. Students may be required to complete additional site-specific requirements as determined by the clinical agency.
